To lose a final is one of the most bitter pills that has to swallow a Team. However, as you must feel, when you go to three finals in a row as losers from the square, it is hard to imagine. Even if it always is, that defeats a team can weld together – each new defeat must feel worse than the year before.

The players of Borussia Dortmund had to wait four long years before they crowned at last, the DFB-Cup winners ‘ Cup, but the road to success for the Black-and-Yellow. “There is absolute euphoria. We have finally won – after four lost finals,” said Marco Reus compared to the DW and calculated the lost final of the Champions League in 2013 against Bayern Munich.

This euphoria showed the Dortmund Fans before kick-off, as they burnt smoke bombs and Bengal lights. You wanted to see your Team in it to win it.

However, the success against Eintracht had its price: Reus remained in action in the grass, twisted the knee and had to watch the second half with a thick Bandage on the injured joint from the Bank. “My knee’s gone, we have to wait and see what the doctor says tomorrow,” said Reus after the game.

But Reus was not the only injured players: Together with the nimble attacker also BVB had to captain Marcel Schmelzer in the break beat from the field. However, Schmelzer thought then less than teammate Reus: “I’m really sorry for him. I don’t know why it always happens,” said Schmelzer.

Deserved Winner

On paper, opponents Frankfurt was the outsider, but on the pitch it was closer than I thought. The harmony proved to be a tough opponent and demanded the BVB much – although Frankfurt’s title dreams after just eight minutes through Ousmane Dembeles wonder goal out of dreams seemed to be. Instead, the Concord was stronger and replied before the break with a 1:1 by Rebic. Only with luck and thanks to the post, saved against Haris Seferovics shot, brought the BVB 1:1 at the break.

Thereafter, however, the Dortmund played to their Strengths. “In the second half they were clearly better than us,” said Frankfurt coach Niko Kovac of the DW. Dortmund put Frankfurt under pressure and develop a clear chance of being overweight, according to the authorized penalty, finally, also in Numbers. “The whistle was entitled,” admitted Kovac and added with a Smile that should probably also Express Pride in the performance of his team. “The bottom line is it was a deserved victory.”

It was my fault”

Frankfurt’s goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky was disappointed, however, visibly. A look in his eyes, as he replied in the stadium tunnel patiently the questions of the journalists revealed a lot of life on the inside.

“It was my fault. I apologize to my teammates,” said Hardecky, the repeated Pulisic of the legs and the penalty for the decisive 2:1 for Dortmund caused. His coach did not want to know, however, nothing – finally, Kovac, have made the Keeper just doing his Job.

However, despite the negative result, Hradecky looks positively into the future: “Last year we had to play the Relegation, this time we have made it to the Cup final,” says the Frankfurt goalkeeper, whose contract expires next summer, has rejected the offer of Concord for an extension yet.

Like most of the Dortmund players also Hradecky know now how it feels to lose the final of Berlin. But he does not want to give up so long: “I must experience this again.”
