On the ‘medium term’, there will be fewer still with a private telecom network. That’s the plan, the board of KPN. It would be two providers with fixed and mobile network, as well as completed. n provider with only a mobile network.

That says the management of KPN, in an internal report of the British bank Barclays, which is in the hands of Tweakers. The KPN management expects that the self remains as a provider of both fixed internet and mobile services, in addition to UPC’s parent company Liberty Global. That company is currently engaged in a takeover of rival Ziggo. From the vision of the future of KPN does not show if Liberty Global in the future, a telecom provider would take over, or that it is itself mobile services is going to offer.

Also expect KPN that there is still one provider of mobile services with its own network remains. The company does not mention any provider by name. Now that Vodafone, T-Mobile and Tele2. KPN believes that the vast majority of users for a fixed and mobile subscription from the same provider will choose, and that only 20 to 25 percent for the one remaining mobile-only provider will choose.

Over the past few years the number of isps still further decreased: thus, Multikabel, @Home and Casema united under the banner of Ziggo and took KPN multiple glasvezelproviders about. In addition, the parent company of UPC is currently busy with an acquisition of Ziggo, after which both providers under the banner of Ziggo will go. In addition, KPN has a stake of 60 percent in Reggefiber, allowing the company full control over the glasvezelboer.

Spokesman Stefan Simons of KPN notes that the predictions are ‘not very concrete’. “It is not hard expectation, but a vision of the future,” he says. Moreover, this prediction is shared by analysts, adds Simons. “You see across Europe that companies like to both fixed and mobile services.”

Although KPN in the Barclays report suggests that there are fewer providers, argues Simons, that’s not necessarily the case: it might also be that a mobile phone operator, also as a virtual provider on one of the fixed networks services.

What other mobile provider with its own network in the future of KPN is left, it does not show in the report. Barclays itself seems in any case not to be expected that this Tele2 is: which provider has, according to the British bank invested little in its solid infrastructure and tv service. Tele2 currently offers fiber and adsl on KPN’s network. Vodafone has a strong position in the business market, argues Barclays.

Vodafone reacts negatively to the predictions of KPN. “If, in practice this means that there are only two providers remain, which is a combination of fixed and mobile services can offer to customers, there is but little to choose for consumers,” said spokesman Joost Galema. According to the provider must provide the Authority Consumer and Market to make sure that competitors have access to the networks of the fixed service providers.

“We would like to invest in that, but we need to have certainty in the long term,” said Galema. “It depends on the choices made by the ACM or the Netherlands in the TELECOM scenario, redundant, or that there is space for more parties.” The ACM lets you know not yet to respond. “Should it come to that, then we will, for example, a conducting market research,” said spokesman Tim Rosendahl. The results thereof are according to him in advance not to predict.

Competitor Tele2 will not respond. “We have ourselves decided that we are not on this kind of messages to respond,” said spokesman Bart de Snaijer of the provider. “We have here an opinion about, but that we share equally.” T-Mobile will also not substantively respond. “We can, of course, do not respond to speculations of competitors,” said spokesman Michael Fox.

Second Member of parliament Bart the Love of the VVD has Friday still questions raised about the acquisition of Reggefiber by KPN. According to Love, it is necessary that competitors maintain access to the fiber network after a takeover of Reggefiber; he wants to minister Henk Kamp of Economic Affairs to know whether he is the same think.
