Rumor: Microsoft drops Surface brand in favor of Lumia

Microsoft might have plans for the Surface brand name no longer be used as soon as the the rights has garnered the brand names of Nokia to use. In place of the Surface would be Microsoft Lumia brand name to use.

The rumors were brought out by telecominsider Evan Blass. Microsoft would have to negotiate with the remaining part of Nokia for a license on the brand name of the latter. The discussions were in the final phase and then Microsoft would farewell like to take of the Surface brand name. Instead, the company seems the Lumia brand name to use, that the telefoondivisie of Nokia used for its mobile devices. That the Lumia name Surface replaces is part of Microsoft’s strategy for its brand names ‘streamlinen’.

It also lays Blass that Microsoft for its smartphonereeks, which according to rumors, the first models in this quarter come out, the name ‘Nokia by Microsoft’. How the first smartphones from Microsoft exactly going to be called is not yet known; it is likely that Microsoft, the Lumia naming for smartphones.

Microsoft took some time ago the telefoontak of Nokia for a sum of almost eur 5.5 billion. The Finnish mobieltjesfabrikant was a long time leader, but had in recent years suffered from competition from iOS and Android.
