Jolla smartphone gets 4g by update

Users of Jolla smartphone after the latest update 4g on the device. The smartphone with Sailfish OS had all the right hardware on board, but the software was in the past few months, not yet ready for 4g-support.

With the June update, users with a subscription in which 4g is the signal received and the 4g connection, writes the company on its update page. The Jolla smartphone supports exactly the frequencies to which Dutch users 4g: 800MHz, 1800MHz and 2600MHz.

The Jolla runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 with support for the processing of 4g signals in the baseband chip on the soc itself. Jolla has also, from the beginning, the necessary antennas and other hardware built-in to the 4g reception is not possible.

Jolla released his first and so far only smartphone with Sailfish OS at the end of last year. The device is available for purchase in Europe, though there is so far only one deal with a provider, the Finnish DNA. The developers are largely sourced from Nokia, where they to the Linux-distros Maemo and MeeGo have worked.
