Antitrust investigators from the EU strive to Philips to impose a fine because of illegal price fixing with regard to chips for smart cards. Previously made Samsung and Infineon already known on this subject addressed by the EU.

The EU should for september a decision on penalties on the cartel have taken, otherwise, threatens the statute of limitations. Possible follow-fines for the end of next month, say sources from Bloomberg. Philips would be the investigation try to stretch it, by pointing out holes in the evidence. Philips is one of the three companies that provide a a fine. Renesas would dance spring because of the case made in the EU.

The other two companies, Samsung and Infineon, made last year, well-known subject of investigation by the EU about prohibited agreements. These agreements were related to the prices of smartcard chips, such as sim, banking and id cards. The chips were made by the halfgeleidertak of Philips, which in 2006 changed its name to NXP.
