Samsung sentenced to 86 million euros in damages to Apple

A juryrechtbank has Samsung ordered to pay damages to Apple after it is determined that the former has infringed on three patents. The compensation is set at approximately 86 million euro.

According to the jury of the court in the American state of California is Samsung guilty of infringement on several patents of Apple, reports Foss Patents. Therefore, the Samsung compensation of 119,6 million dollar pay, converted slightly more than 86 million euros.At the same time, Apple need to an amount of 158.400 dollar pay out to Samsung, for infringing on a patent of the latter.

The jury has determined that Samsung with its smartphones and tablets with two of the five in the lawsuit mentioned patents does not infringe. However, Samsung infringed on patents for technology for the contextual linking of menu’s to phone numbers and addresses, slide-to-unlock and autocomplete describes. The jury also states that Apple is infringing on a patent from Samsung that camera describes.

The jury established damages is significantly less than the $ 2.2 billion which Apple asked for. By the way, the final damages are yet to be determined by the court. Therefore, the amount can be even higher or lower. In an earlier patentzaak between the two technology companies, condemned the jury for Samsung to pay damages of approximately a billion dollars, but that was later by the court almost halved.
