Microsoft creates ‘old strategieserie’ to life

Microsoft is looking for a lead designer who a team wants to put a new version of a well-known strategy game. It is a new version of a ‘beloved game’. To which series it is, Microsoft is, however, not known.

Microsoft appears at the end of april the ad online to that the search for a new lead designer. The editor shows little about the game where the lead designer to go to work. He or she must be in Seattle for a team to go that will work on a strategy game from a well-known and, according to Microsoft, even beloved strategieserie. To which series it is, Microsoft is not known and also on what platforms the game will appear, and if the project should be finished remains unclear.

Microsoft is mainly known for the Age of Empires series. That were created by Ensemble Studios, Microsoft in 2001, but in 2009 already closed. That seemed to be Microsoft to distance itself from the strategy genre. Then experimented the company with new revenue models. So, Microsoft released the free playable Age of Empires Online, which was made by Robot Entertainment, a studio founded by former Ensemble employees.

Microsoft then brought in 2013, Age of Empires II: HD Edition, a polished version of the game from 1999 that use Steam to download. Also Age of Mythology from 2002 will soon be a polished version via Steam. Further, Microsoft hopes a mobile version of Age of Empires on the market. The Japanese Klab is working on the free playable Age of Empires: World Domination, that appears for iOS, Android and Windows Phone. In strategic games, Microsoft released the last years only Halo Wars, the last game that Ensemble delivered.
