Apple patent describes using the sapphire glass for smartphone and laptop

A Thursday-published patent application from Apple describes the use of sapphire glass for displays of, among others, phones, monitors and laptops. In addition, Apple has licensed the use of Liquidmetals metal alloy is extended.

The patent application, which Patently Apple writes, describes the use of layers of different material in combination with the display technology for the coverglas of, among others, mobile phones, tablets, computers and media players. Different layers can be a kristalsaffier existence, in which the sapphire single crystal lattice forms. The layers are alternated with the interface and displaylagen, and have the coverglas stronger, more durable and more resistant to scratches. Artificial sapphire is much harder than toughened glass and can displays scratch resistant and virtually unbreakable. Incidentally, it is the request already in 2012, and submitted Thursday before being published.

Interestingly enough, describes the patent application, the integration of control elements, such as the home button, the volume control and the holdschakelaar in the sapphire reinforced coverglas. The iPhone 5S is the home button also all of sapphire glass, but the surrounding coverglas of another enhanced type. Also, the lens of the camera of this smartphone is a layer of sapphire glass.

Apple closed last year, a miljoenendeal with U.s. manufacturer GT Advanced Technologies for the supply of large quantities of sapphire glass and the end of march discovered Apple Insider that the two companies, the facility in Arizona to do this quite start to expand.
