Google intends it for users of Gmail easier to create messages are encrypted send. The search giant would consider to be different types of encryption, including pgp, to integrate into the service.

Internally there would be with the American company a research walk for the opportunity to support pgp in Gmail to integrate, reports VentureBeat on the basis of an anonymous source. The biggest stumbling block would be the user friendliness. How Google pgp exactly would want to integrate, and whether it is retaining the option of scanning emails for advertising purposes, is not known.

Pgp works with a combination of public keys and private keys. The public key can be shared, which is often through public keyservers. The public key can be used to create a message to encrypt, this message can then only be decrypted by the person who has the corresponding private key.

The initiative to pgp in Gmail to integrate would have been inspired by the revelations of NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden. Different organizations around pgp reported previously, rising demand, as increased the number of daily uploads to the SKS-keyserverpool last year, too.
