The belgian government has 15.000 pcs on Windows XP to run

The Belgian government is turning still, approximately 15,000 computers on the Windows XP operating system. Microsoft stops at the beginning of april with the support of the operating system, making users protected against attacks.

The figures on pcs to the Belgian authorities are still on the outdated Windows XP to run requested by Member of parliament Peter Dedecker of the Flemish political party NVA. At the ministry of justice would still 5653 pc’s on XP running on a total of 17,500 computers; the ministry of finance has 4793 XP-based computers.

Also in other departments and at the consulates, there are still hundreds of computers with the old operating system, bringing the total in the federal government on 15.636 pc’s. The federal ministries that are still vulnerable XP systems, have to say that this will be replaced. This goes on to estimate at least 2.5 million euros in costs.

According to the Member of parliament running the government at risk if XP is not in time will be phased out. Microsoft stops on 8 april with the release of security updates for the OS. This is a great chance that the computers of the Belgian government vulnerable to hackers and criminals: security vulnerabilities continue to be forever open.
