Intel has new details to release about the Merrifield and Moorefield-Atoms for smartphones and tablets, which this year are going to appear. In addition, the manufacturer has a new lte modem revealed that the competition with Qualcomm entered into will be.

Intel gives all times that the company is very strong on mobile and the new announcements to confirm that. The chip maker shows a roadmap showing that in the first half of 2014, the Merrifield-Atom, the cart must pull. Merrifield will be made available as Atom Z34xx in two variants. In both cases, an soc with two Silvermont cores that are about a 1MB L2 cache can hold, and with a PowerVR G6400 gpu which is at 533MHz and running, equipped. At the Z3460 is the maximum clock speed, however, is 1.6 GHz, while the Z3480 2.13 GHz. Both chips are at 22nm produced.

Moorefield, i.e. Atom Z35xx, coming in the second half of 2014 in two variants that are virtually identical to the Merrifield-Atoms, only the Atom Z3560 and Z3580 with four cores, which, however, again clock speed and 1.6 GHz and 2.13 GHz. Also is the gpu the PowerVR G6430, which is also at 533MHz, but does other optimizations for better performance. Both soc-types with up to 4GB lpddr3, and a 13-megapixel camera combined.

Another important difference is that Merrifield with the XMM 7160-lte modem must do, while Moorefield will also work with the new XMM 7260 modem from Intel. Where the XMM 7160 support for up to lte category 4 with speeds of 150Mbit/s, is that the 7260 category 6 with 300Mbit/s. Also going to be a lte-advanced model with support for carrier aggregation, so the fragmented frequency bands of carriers together for higher throughput.

On the roadmap of Intel is still Cherry Trail for the second half of 2014. This is the successor of Bay Trail on Airmont – instead of Silvermont cores, and that at 14nm instead of 22nm are produced. Also the gpu would be a significant boost. Finally, it allows Intel to the message of SoFIA for the second half of the year. This is a soc for the instapmarkt that is striking enough to TSMC will be produced and on Silvermont cores, although it is originally a poor design. About Cherry Trails and Sofia made Intel nothing further known during the MCW show in Barcelona.
