AMD is working on an Opteron-processor with eight dual-core modules for a total of sixteen cores on a single that. Also the uncore is on the that is integrated. It comes to an Opteron processor with Steamroller cores.

The work to the processor is apparent from a document that Planet3dnow discovered on the AMD site. The document shows the schedule of a processor, with indication of ‘Family 15h processor model 30h-3Fh’. It is deduced that it is a chip with Bulldozer-modules and Steamroller cores, and not to a model with Excavator cores, which is Steamroller going to follow.

Further to that there are eight modules and thus sixteen cores on the die are present and that a sri interconnect is connected to a crossbar, which in turn is the communication with on the one hand, the memory controller and to the other side of the HyperTransport links as well. The HT-links supports there will be an exclusive pci-e 3.0, while there are two purely for HyperTransport and two combined on the left.

Unknown is whether and, if so, when the AMD chip on the market, but since the chipontwerpbedrijf in 2014 and 2015 with its Opteron 6300 series, called Warsaw, wants to do, it does not seem likely that the processor for the end of 2015 appears. Also the Opteron 6300 line is a chips with sixteen cores, but it’s going to be two dies, each with eight cores in a single G34 package. The first models in that line are just appearing in the shops, says Cpu world.
