Scientists of the University Medical Centre in Maastricht have a new type of hearing aid is designed. The device is in the skin and the bone is inserted, after which it fuses. There are clinical trials performed with the hearing aid.

According to scientists, it is the first time that I have managed to have a hearing aid with the bone to integrate. The Cochlear Baha, as the device by the researchers in Maastricht is called, is inserted behind the ear. Then fuses with the bone, something which should ensure that there is less rejection to occur. Also would the hearing aid is less noticeable than conventional models.

The UNIVERSITY medical centre in Maastricht has started a clinical study to the effects of the Cochlear Baha compared with conventional hearing aids that are on the bone are made. In Maastricht are currently eighteen people involved with the study, but there are still new participants were recruited. Also a number of other hospitals in the Netherlands participate in the study. During the study, among other things, looked at whether patients with the new hearing aid experience pain and or the quality of life is improved.
