Netflix rolls out higher bandwidth to all users

Netflix has the maximum bandwidth with which videos are displayed for all the users is increased. Previously it was the higher bandwidth, Netflix ‘super hd’, available only to subscribers of providers directly with Netflix peering.

The change means in practice that subscribers of providers that do not directly with Netflix peering now access to the maximum bandwidth of 7Mbit/s. The minimum bandwidth for ‘super hd” according to Netflix 5Mbit/s. Super hd content is identified with the eponymous logo.

In the Netherlands peer KPN and Ziggo directly with Netflix; with UPC are still in talks, said Neil Hunt, the chief product officer of Netflix, in an interview with Tweakers. The direct peering to Netflix cheaper.

How much better the ‘super hd’display is exactly, Netflix is withheld. Furthermore, signs Netflix that not all titles in the ‘super hd’ are available and that the user’s internet connection fast enough to handle the higher bandwidth to support it. Or now also the 3d view for all users is available, is unknown.
