Microsoft has the functionality to Tiled Resources announced for DirectX 11.2. The technology makes use of more detail than is now among other games. The update for DirectX is to Windows 8.1 and new generations of consoles.

Microsoft at its Build event for developers the Tiled Resources feature of DirectX 11.2 demonstrates. The technology makes use of mega-textures. Now is the size of the textures, and thus of the detail of surfaces, limited by the amount of video memory. The Tiled Resources api and DirectX 11.2 brings with it access to the hardware-based virtual memory system, and the pagetable to developers. This enables them to the working memory of the system in addition to the video memory to enable textures to be accommodated.

Microsoft used to include a view of the planet Mars 3GB for his demonstration, which zoomed in to ground level to gullies and cracks in the surface and in the memory of the graphics card is only 16MB was used. In another demonstration of middlewareproduct Granite of the Belgian graphical company Graphine could on the tiny details of the four gliders zoomed in. The planes were built from 8000×8000 pixels and took in a total of 4GB. The technique is reminiscent of the MegaTextures that the game Rage of id Software used.
