Ballmer wants to, inter alia, that there is more cooperation and therefore there should be an end to the many ‘islands’ within Microsoft, making products faster to be developed, the quality up and the more products one feeling to convey. To this end, for example, the various divisions, Windows and Windows Phone, merged into a besturingssystemengroep. That division will be headed by Julie Larson-Green, as previously it was rumored. At this time, Larson-Green is responsible for the Windows division.

The different departments that hardware, to be assembled into a hardware group, including the studios that create games are coming to attack. The head of Microsoft Research, Rick Rashid, occurs also decreases, but remains at Microsoft working in the besturingssystemengroep.

Ballmer says that with the reorganization the company behind one strategy is to want scissors. “This is a big company,” says Ballmer, referring to the reorganization. “It touches almost everything we do and how we work,” said Ballmer in the memo. “The changes to our structure, how we collaborate, how we deal with our resources, how we use our developers to enable their work to do, and how we bring products to the market.”
