The FCC has Googles White Spaces database, final approval given. With this permission may Google in the USA trials keep unused televisiefrequenties. Through this so-called white spaces wants the search giant on the term wireless internet.

In the White Spaces database, the frequencies for each region can be used. These frequencies were previously used for analog television broadcasts, but by the digitization into disuse. Google thinks this space in the ether to be able to use wireless internet technology. Especially in sparsely populated areas, would the technology be interesting.

Google is with the FCC-certified to the White Spaces database to manage. This is already used in some tests by Google, such as in a project in South Africa. The search giant says that with the trial, want to demonstrate that other parties are on neighbouring frequentieblokken no problems of interference.

At the trial in South Africa would speeds of 1 to 10Mbit/s are obtained. What transmission speeds Google in the United States thinks it can achieve, it is not yet clear. However, let the search giant know that it is working with parts manufacturers to the White Spaces database to be able to read so that in a particular area, the appropriate frequencies are selected.
