The American cable company Comcast has an internet connection through the cable is displayed with a download speed of 3Gbit/s. With the demonstration, the company wants to show that cable can compete with fiber.

To make a connection from 3Gbit/s to achieve made Comcast use of technology based on the conventional docsis standard, all are probably some technical adjustments done. It is unclear when Comcast thinks such compounds on a commercial scale.

For speeds of 3Gbit/s, such as through Comcast displayed will probably have to wait until the docsis 3.1 standard was completed; this should have download speeds of up to 10Gbps. Providers are currently still busy with the roll-out of docsis 3.0. In addition, Intel recently a cable modem, announced that connections over existing cable networks up to 1Gbit/s.

In the United States, Google began offering internet via fiber optics with a speed of 1Gbit/s. In the Netherlands, UPC has recently announced download speeds of up to 500Mbit/s to offer.
