Hon Hai, the parent company of chinese technology firm Foxconn, would next week be a tablet featuring Firefox OS to demonstrate. Until now there are only phones with the mobile operating system from Mozilla. Hon Hai and Mozilla will work together.

The rumor comes from an anonymous source, Focus Taiwan, and the renowned Reuters news agency has that info over. It is unclear to what tablet it is. It wouldn’t be the first time that Foxconn tablet designs. The 7″-tablets, BlackBerry PlayBook and Amazon Kindle Fire were to design it from the Chinese company.

Foxconns parent company, Hon Hai and Mozilla to keep next week a joint press conference a partnership to announce. Hon Hai is one of the many companies that has rallied behind Firefox OS. Among many providers, chipmaker Qualcomm and manufacturers as Huawei, Sony and LG are behind the plans of Mozilla, while Alcatel and ZTE all models with Firefox OS have presented. Phones with Firefox OS should have this summer come true in countries like Venezuela, Spain and Poland. Plans for an English release are still unknown. The devices will be cheap.

Mozilla is trying with Firefox OS to break with the model of closed downloadwinkels and apps differ from websites. Apps in Firefox OS run in a browser window. Each site can with a few lines of code as a ‘web app in Firefox OS run. The apps require no installation. Also standaardapps in the operating system, such as the phone app, run in browser windows. Although Mozilla’s goal is idealistic, see a lot of carriers and manufacturers Firefox OS, the first serious contender to the duopoly of iOS and Android, which together accounted for a market share of well above 90 per cent, to break. In addition, everyone can earn money with Firefox OS: manufacturers with the sales of phones and providers, with the sale of content in downloadwinkels.
