Monday reported Tweakers that general practitioners were forced with an insecure version of Java to work, because the latest Java version is not compatible with the loginsysteem of Promedico, a software which is used for patient records to keep track of. The outdated version included 42 security vulnerabilities, of which there are 39 at a distance to exploit. Some were classified as ‘critical’, and Oracle has advised users to update.

After the notice has Promedico accelerated a software update rolled out, let the company in a written statement know. Therefore, users can now update to the latest Java version, without loginproblemen occur. “The corresponding update of the general Practitioners Information System was already planned, but we have now to accelerate”, the company said. It was originally a software update scheduled for this Thursday.

It was since mid-april announced that the Java version was unsafe: when was an update rolled out that the security issues solved. Promedico says to want to avoid such an unsafe situation from occurring again. “We are well aware that such improvements effects on the interests of patients faster and more directly need to be implemented”, says the statement.

Hundreds of practitioners were affected by the problem. According to Promedico, there are no indications that the unsafe Java version actually has led, for example, that patient records on the street. Nevertheless, the general practitioners recommended that the Java update in question as soon as possible to install.
