Corning Lotus XT Glass announced. In contrast to the better known and sturdy Gorilla Glass, is a glass substrate between the upper surface of the windshield and the lcd is located and according to the manufacturer, the production costs of smartphones and tablets is dropping by Lotus XT.

Lotus XT is the successor of the in 2011 released Lotus Glass from Corning. It is not to the strong outer surface of the windshield, but to an underlying glass substrate, on the lcd laminated and in which transistors are placed.

The big advantage of Lotus XT is that at larger temperature differences file than its predecessor, and that the more stable remains under the extreme techniques of the screens. More advanced production techniques for display screens, for increased resolution, brightness and other improved features that make, will go hand in hand with an increase of the temperature during the production. The chance that the glass substrate defects will show this in turn increases.

Besides Lotus XT for lower pitch variaton sure. “The distance features move during processing of the different layers, we call the total pitch. If you measure from low to low we call the pitch variaton”, explains John Bayne, vice-president of Corning, from. By lowering the total pitch variation, manufacturers can their yields and improve efficiency, leading to lower costs. Also would the glass substrate for a lower consumption and higher brightness make.
