A number of British companies has a trial held in which a Jetstream-business aircraft over a distance of 800km from the ground was controlled. The trial should help in the development of unmanned passenger aircraft.

Although the trial already in april was held, the details have only recently made known, writes New Scientist. During the test it was zakentoestel, a Jetstream of the company BAE Systems offers space for a maximum of 19 persons, by a normal pilot in the air. Then was switched over to operation by a pilot from the ground.

The device would be during the trial without problems, a flight of 800km between the British places Warton and Inverness have taken. During the flight were under the other algorithms tested to secure the unit between other air traffic to fly, and the prescribed rules that relate to air safety. Also the correct recognition of other objects in the air was tested.

The test run was carried out by a number of British companies in the Astraea consortium, to work on passenger aircraft without a pilot at the flight controls, flights must be able to make, as is now widely done using unmanned aircraft. The Astraea project has a research budget of 62 million British pounds, the equivalent of some 73 million euros.
