Microsoft lowers the resolution requirements for Windows 8 tablets for advent 7″models

Microsoft allows manufacturers to systems with a screen resolution of 1024×768 pixels to produce, where previously at least 1366×768 was required. The step is probably motivated by the arrival of 7″tablets with Windows 8. At the lower resolution will Snap off.

The reduction applies for all formfactors, and Microsoft says the need for more flexibility in the design for certain markets’ to get this. At the same time, says the manufacturer need to be seen by customers at the higher resolutions. Microsoft has earlier this month the various hardware manufacturers are already aware of the reduction of the minimum resolution requirement to 1024×768 pixels on 32bit tablets, notes ZDNet.

Up until now, the resolution requirement for Windows 8 systems, at least 1366×768 pixels. The reduction provides, among others, that manufacturers are now able to play on the popularity of affordable small tablets with schermdiagonalen of 7 to 8 inches, and resolutions of 1024×768 and 1280×800 pixels. Also, it means that the aspect ratios of 16:10 and 4:3 are supported. In general, these aspect ratios as fine for portrait mode, while the current Windows 8 tablets with 16:9 ratio, especially a good user experience would offer in landscape mode.

At resolutions of less than 1366×768 pixels will Snap not working, so let Microsoft know. Snap is the Windows 8 feature that two apps in the new interface next to each other shows. Manufacturer must according to the software developer, clear to consumers, let them know that Snap is not supported on systems with the lower resolution.
