Frank Gibeau, head of Labels division of publisher Electronic Arts, stated that digital rights management is a ‘failed, dead-end strategy’ is. The ceo stated also that drm is not a consideration in the choice to of SimCity is an always online game.

In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz sets Gibeau that digital rights management ‘is not a workable strategy for the games industry’. He even raises that drm a ‘failed dead-end strategy’ is. Therefore, the use of drm is also not a consideration in the design of SimCity, the simulation game that EA at the beginning of march put on the market, allows Gibeau. “So it is not gone,” he says. “I was involved in all the meetings. Drm is not a single time have been considered. You’re not making mmog because you have drm in your mind. You make a massively multiplayer experience, nothing more.” The ceo recognizes, however, that EA is not well enough managed to fans of the series to make it clear that the new version of SimCity a lot more on a mmog seems than the previous parts.

Immediately after sales of SimCity, there was a lot of fuss among fans, because there is not enough server capacity was available. Players could not log in, that the game is not playable. EA has the server capacity is now being increased. Gibeau is not the first to acknowledge that drm is to too much fuss. In september suggested Ubisoft-director Yves Guillemot that drm is effective, but at the same time, ‘bad user experience’. The French publisher will not ‘always on drm’ more in his games.
