Sony cuts prices of PlayStation Vita in Japan

Sony has announced the prices of the PlayStation Vita in Japan considerably reduce. In the home country costs the wi-fi+3g version and the wi-fi-only version of the handheld as of February 28, just short of 20,000 yen. Converted that’s about 160 euro.

The price reduction may be related to disappointing sales of the handheld console. In the second sales week, the number of sold Vita’s, with 81 percent compared to the orientation week. Also Sony is disappointed in the number of games by other publishers to the Vita. According to Shuhei Yoshida, head of Sony Worldwide Studios, is due to the increase of the number of gameplatforms not so obvious to the PlayStation Vita to support. May hopes Sony with the price drop, a new group of gamers to be interested in the handheld.

The list price of the PS Vita was at launch 250 euros for the wifi version and 300 euros for the version with 3g functionality. In web shops is the Vita with wi-fi already get for prices around 200 euro. The Dutch press officer of Sony PlayStation could not yet say whether the price of the handhelds also in the Benelux is reduced.
