Researchers at the university of Reno in the Us state of Nevada have a vibrating steering wheel designed that a driver needs help on the road to remain as he is blinded, for example, by the low sun.

Especially in the winter, car drivers suffer from a low sun, whether or not reinforced by reflections through ice and snow. This can result in glare, and sometimes with accidents. Two researchers at the university of Reno thinking a solution for this problem to have been found by the development of a steering wheel with haptic feedback together with a number of sensors, writes NewScientist.

According to the authors, Eelke Folmer and Burkay Sucu, the system starts to operate as soon as a sensor determines that the driver can’t see anything to bright light. This check sensors or the vehicle from the lane of the road is likely to get. The custom steering wheel will then make the driver alert by, for example, on the left side to vibrate, which indicates that a stuurcorrectie to the right is necessary in the path to continue.

The steering wheel with haptic feedback vibrates with 275Hz because the human skin for this frequency is the most sensitive. During tests with the system, in which twelve persons took place in a simulator, the system could have functioned. Would the tests have proved that a larger part of the wheel of trilelementen should be provided, because directors have a different grip on the steering wheel. If and when the haptic feedback system actually in new cars will be included, is not yet clear.
