Research: 8,5 million people shopping online

More and more Dutch people shop online, according to a regularly recurring analysis of the market for online shopping. While in the first half of 2011, 8 million Dutch online shoppers, it is now increased to 8.5 million.

Average spending online shoppers in the first half of 2012, per person, 543 euro, a slight increase compared to a year earlier. That is mainly because the number of orders that rose from 4.6 per person to be 4.9. The amount per order decreases for some time by the rise of apps and downloads, for example music albums, which cost very little.

The most popular “product” to order online is a journey. That is followed by telecom products, a collective term for smartphones and mobile subscriptions; in that segment was there in the first half of 2012, for 610 million euros ordered.

The research, the Thuiswinkel Market Monitor, is a regularly recurring research into online spending. It is carried out by Blauw Research and sponsored by postal company PostNL. The full report will only be online at a later stage.
