Apple ceo Tim Cook in an open letter apologized for the veelbekritiseerde kaartensoftware of the mobile operating system iOS 6. The ceo advises users preliminary alternative software to use.

In the letter gives Cook admits that Apple’s maps to be of insufficient quality and it assures users that there are hard improvements are being worked on. He gives, however, did not indicate how long it will be before Apple the quality of the Maps application is in order. Apple recommends users to temporarily a other kaartenapplicatie to use, such as Bing, MapQuest, Waze or the web applications of Google or Nokia.

In iOS 6 is the traditional kaartenapplicatie of Google replaced by Apple’s self-developed variant. Soon after the launch of iOS 6, it rained complaints about errors in the map data. So, some cities have names that already dozens of years no longer in use, pois are incorrectly placed and are non-existing roads shown. Also within the Netherlands there are a lot of errors to be found: the Amsterdam Science Park by Apple, for example, considered as a nature area, and search to the Central Station in the same place delivers only nearby shops. The lack of Street View, similar functionality has also for a lot of criticism taken care of.

It is rare that Apple feels forced to apologize for poorly functioning products to offer. In 2010, the company, following the launch of the iPhone 4 under fire when it turned out that the network signal could disappear when the phone is in a certain way was held. Although ceo Steve Jobs eventually apologize to disgruntled buyers offered, he remained of the opinion that the antenneprobleem exaggerated.
