Western Digital’s new external hard drives in the PassPort series to be released. The my Passport Edge drives are thinner than the previous series. The drives feature usb 3.0 interfaces and have 500GB of storage capacity.

The new, thinner Passport Edge drives will be in two versions, each with 500GB of storage capacity are available. A regular version with a usb 3.0 port is intended for consumers with a pc and the drives are ntfs-formatted. The enclosure is black, and only 12.8 millimeters thick. Western Digital provides a WD SmartWare, Windows software that makes creating and especially updating of backups, facilitate.

The Mac version, with the addition of ‘for Mac’, of course, is hfs formatted, but also the appearance differs a lot from the pc version. The aluminium housing is black, but has a chrome edge that is complementary with the look of MacBooks. Also is the disk with a thickness of 11 millimeters, slightly thinner.
