The European Commission has thirteen suppliers that are involved in the make of cd – and dvd-drives, ge lwa also information that they are suspected of participating in a worldwide cartel. In addition, European rules have been violated.
The European Commission has a short notice posted stating that thirteen suppliers, involved in the manufacture of cd – and dvd-drives, have been informed about suspicions that they had participated in a worldwide cartel.
Brussels suspects that the suppliers have worked with in the bidding process for procurement of two major manufacturers that the optical drives used in desktops, notebooks and servers. The suppliers would already have at least five years to participate in the fraudulent bids. With the sending of a ‘statement of objections’, a list of formal complaints, the commission may at the study start. The suppliers can now prepare for their defense.
If the suppliers are found guilty, then the penalty per supplier up to 10 percent of the global annual turnover of the company. The commission has not disclosed which companies it goes.
