WD is getting into market of wireless home networks

Western Digital is going to be scope to expand wireless home networks. The company has four wi-fi routers announced, of which the top model is equipped with a possibility for internal storage. Also, the company has a switch released.

The models are part of Western Digital’s new My Net family of products. The company is no longer satisfied with only the offer of storage solutions for home and wants to make My Net family, a place in the market for wireless home networking conquer. The wired ethernet ports relate to all gigabit connections.

The flagship model is the My Net 900 Central. This model is available in a version with built-in 1TB hdd or a 2TB variant, and is equipped with a usb connection, four lan ports and a wlan connection. The My Net 900 Central has, in addition to internal storage, with the advantage that on the internal hard drive automatically creates a backup can be made of the files of all pcs in the network, while the network hub if any of the four is accessible via the internet, through a web interface or through apps for smartphones and tablets based on Android or iOS.

The My Net 900 has no built-in storage, but has three lan ports and an additional usb connector.

To stream hd content over the home network in the right direction, the My Net 900 Central and the My Net 900 with FasTrack Plus technology. This may be the sort of content that is being played back, be recognized, and the allocation of bandwidth to be optimized. According to Western Digital this will prevent delays in the playback of hd content. For wi-fi, the dual-band n technology, in theory a total of 900Mbps available.

The My Net 750, and My Net 600, also make use of dual-band n technology, but have a combined bandwidth of, respectively, 750 and 600Mbps for wireless communication. The two have four lan ports and a wlan connection, but the My Net 750 has a usb port extra.

For consumers who only need a switch, Western Digital My Net Switch has been released, with a total of eight lan ports. These are divided into two high priority ports, for example, hd content, four ethernet connectors, with a medium priority and two low priority. The full duplex bandwidth is 2000Mbps.

The My Net 900 Central is available from around 350 euros, the My Net 900 wi-fi router has a suggested retail price of almost 180 euros, while the My Net 750, and My Net 600 are available for, respectively, 120 and 90 euros. The My Net Switch costs 60 euros.
