The Second Room do not want there to be cuts on the space. The government was going to have the budget for space quite down to the screws, but the Second Room wants, that searches for solutions to prevent it.

A Kamermeerderheid of D66, SP, GroenLinks, PvdA and CDA asked the government there Thursday, writes The Telegraph. Dutch minister of Economic Affairs Maxime Verhagen has promised no ‘irreversible steps’ to take. However, he feels that the five parties after the election with a plan to reverse the cuts to funding. The VVD and PVV asked for to money that was intended for renewable energy to use for space travel, but that is according to Verhagen not legally possible.

The government was planning the budget for the space travel back to screws on average 100 million euros per year to 63 million euros in 2015. The largest decrease was in the budget for voluntary programs: that would be in 2015, less than a third of that of 2008. A large part of the ruimtevaartbudget consists of mandatory programmes of the European space agency ESA.

The Second Room was dissatisfied with the plans; according to The Telegraph, inter alia because of the success of astronaut André Kuipers. Also was concerned about the consequences for employment. An important technical division of the ESA, where satellites are tested and developed, and where 2500 people work, is currently based in the Netherlands.
