Start-up online stores have made it increasingly difficult, claims Thuiswinkel.org after investigation. One in five of the new stores will stop within a year, a quarter will give up after two years. The foundation speaks of a change in trend.

The netherlands now has more than 40,000 merchants and on given moment there is a saturation point, claims to protect the interests of the Thuiswinkel.org. “We can make the digital shopping not unlimited continue to fill with even more online shops that do not distinguish it from other,” says director Wijnand Jongen. He expects that the trend will continue.

Moreover, a growing number of webshops in the Netherlands remains, but the starters have made it increasingly difficult on the market. The foundation relies on its own figures from its membership of 1600 stores, including a lot of smaller web shops. Three years ago, stopped just ten percent of the prospective members within two years, that’s now grown to 25 percent.

From the reasons that owners give for the stop, it appears that many of them running a web shop to be underestimated. According to Boy, do you run an online store there are not just a bit, and you have something special to offer in order to survive: “it Is wise for the umpteenth store in baby or children’s clothing to start? That is a fair question that entrepreneurs themselves have set.”
