Samyang has a new fisheye lens announced for Sony E and Samsung NX-cameravatting. The lens has a focal length of 8mm and an aperture of f/2.8, and will from July be available for about 350 euros.

Samyang had been an 8mm f/3.5-fisheye-lens in its range, but this new Samyang 8mm f/2.8 ED AS IF UMC lens has a larger pupil, but also has a significantly different design. The new lens is designed specifically for the compact system cameras from Sony and Samsung.

The fisheye lens is composed of ten lens elements, one aspherical is cut, and two extra high refractive index, distributed across eight lens groups. The lens is equipped with six of aperture blades, has a fixed lens hood on the front and there is only in a manual focus variant. That the new lens specially designed for compact system cameras from Sony and Samsung, is designed, is evident also from the weight: that is, with 217g for the Sony E-variant is almost half as heavy as the current 8mm f/3.5 lens which is suitable for full-frame cameras.

The new lens has a focal length of 8mm, which, in combination with the 1.5 x-cropsensors of the NEX and NX cameras have a viewing angle of 180 degrees, about equal to a 12mm lens in film camera equivalents. Because of the large depth of field of the lens, is everything from a meter of the front lens element sharp in the image.

According to PhotoRumors, the new Samyang 8mm f/2.8 ED AS IF UMC-fisheye-lens-from July be available for a suggested retail price of 350 euros.
