Nintendo post first jaarverlies ever by deteriorating sales

Nintendo has, for the first time ever a jaarverlies to report. Strong declines in sales of the Wii and the Nintendo 3DS are the cause. According to Nintendo, the results are better with the Wii U, and the expansion of the Nintendo Network.

The jaarverlies is due to a deteriorating sales of all Nintendo consoles. The company sold during this financial year, from march 2011 to march 2012, 36 per cent fewer consoles. On top of suffering the company under a strong yen, which makes the value of exported goods is under pressure.

So were the Wii in the year, but ten million units sold instead of the hoped-for thirteen million and decreased the demand for the Nintendo 3DS. Nintendo has no detailed and updated sales figures of the 3DS released. However, earlier this year announced that a total of fifteen million units of the 3DS were sold since its release in march last year.
