Lenovo invests in development centre for smartphones and tablets

Lenovo is 800 million dollars to invest in a Chinese development centre for smartphones and tablets. The electronics manufacturer wants to play a greater role in the mobile market. Lenovo has been selling some of the smartphone – and tablet models.

In the new development centre in the Chinese Wuhan will be the research, development and manufacturing of smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices will be carried out. The company wants to concentrate more on mobile devices and the development centre should be a contribution to continue to deliver. Lenovo has some tablets for the Western market released: the Idea of Tablets and the ThinkPad Tablet, but in China, there were already tablets sold under the name LePad, just as smartphones under the name of LePhone.

New tablets and smartphones for the Western market are in the pipeline. For Europe and the United States has Lenovo K800 announced. This is one of the first smartphones with the new Intel-SoC on board. The K800 is an Android device that runs on Intel’s Medfield-SoC with a clock speed of 1.6 GHz. Meanwhile, there is already a handset with the Medfield-SoC released in India.

The new IdeaTab of Lenovo was the beginning of april announced. That gets a 9.7-inch screen with a 4:3 aspect ratio. Possible that tablet also a soc from Intel. It is not certain when the devices should be for sale, nor how much they will cost.
