Western Digital has a 1TB version of its Velociraptor series added. The ten thousand rpm spinning hard drive with 64MB cache and uses according to the harddiskfabrikant less power than its predecessors.

The hard drives in the Velociraptor series with speeds of 10,000 revolutions per minute for some time to the fastest sata drives and the new 1TB version, with three platters of 333GB, is there, according to Western Digital is no exception. The hard drive has a 2.5″enclosure, and is packaged in a 3.5″-heatsink by the manufacturer IcePack is called. The cooling fins on the heat sink to the heat developed drains.

The WD1000DHTZ has a sata-600 interface and according to WD internal throughput rates up to 200MB/s to achieve. The noise level is idle, on average, 30dBA, and as soon as the heads move, it rises to an average of 37dBA. WD represents the consumption of the Velociraptor drives have reduced: – in random and sequential read and writes, the average consumption respectively 5.1 and 5.8 W while in idle mode 4.2 W is verstookt. In standby drops the power consumption further to 1.1 W.

WD does also revamped models, with 250GB and 500GB, which are provided with the order no. WD2500HHTZ and WD5000HHTZ. The 1TB model has a price tag of $ 320, while the 500GB and 250GB models, respectively, 210 and 160 dollars need to pay. WD offers a five-year warranty on the Velociraptor series.

In a review of the 1TB version concludes AnandTech that the WD1000DHTZ is faster than all 3.5″hard disks that are currently on the market. Also, the review is the reduced energy consumption but also called. The site asks, however, whether there is much demand for such hard drives as ssds are not only faster but also more affordable. Also, a raid1-array with a number of 5400rpm or 7200rpm disks for a better alternative. Storage Review is milder and argues that the 1TB version of the Velociraptor, a lot of speed and a sufficient storage capacity for a relatively low price.
