The Ministry of Economic Affairs extends the deadline for the gsm licences, with 21 months. The current licenses of KPN, Vodafone and T-Mobile run in February 2013 and that is too soon after the frequentieveiling of October.

At the end of October, the auction of the licenses for the 800-, 900 – and 1800MHz frequencies. “It is the first time that holders of licences for mobile communication is a real transition need to of existing to new permits to migrate,” writes the minister Verhagen of Economic Affairs about this. The existing GSM900 and GSM1800 licenses of KPN, Vodafone and T-Mobile, however, in February 2013. The three-month period between the auction and the expiry of the current licences is too short to migrate, concludes the minister, after investigation of PA Consulting.

After February 2013 get the mobile providers therefore 21 months the time to move. The companies have to pay for the extension; the amount is determined by an independent consulting firm, that will rely on the proceeds from the auction of October.

The minister wants the reserved 900MHz frequencies as soon as possible be taken into use by a newcomer. The existing providers must therefore have the relevant spectrum within six months after the auction free. “In addition, they give a part of their spectrum and move it to a different place in the spectrum”, he said. The new party is given according to the minister immediately after the auction, the choice of whether he wants to make use of the possibility to quickly start. Newcomers can, in any case, immediately after the auction at 1 January 2013, their 800MHz licences in use.
