Digits that did not appear in documents in a lawsuit between Google and Oracle show that iOS is significantly more turnover in the results for Google’s own Android OS. The Android gains are but a fraction of the total revenue.
The figures show that Apple’s iOS operating system as much as four times more beneficial for Google’s own Android operating system, so claims The Guardian. The British newspaper has documents seen of an ongoing patentenzaak which Oracle a claim submitted against Google. Therein were the numbers mentioned, though it is not clear how these are calculated. Google provides several of its services on iOS devices, including Maps and Search. The turnover is probably mainly from ads.
According to the documents, the Android operating system the internetgigant only a turnover of slightly more than a half a billion dollars in three years time produced. The amount of nearly 550 million dollars in the documents was called, is only a small part of Googles total revenue: last year was 38 billion dollars. However, it is possible that the amount in the documents was called lower than the actual revenue: Google has in the lawsuit with Oracle’s interest that its Android revenues lower.
The figures are striking, because Android is the recent time has become the mobile operating system with the largest market share. Companies do not have Google certification to obtain, with the result that many, especially cheap Android devices without the profitable Google services are delivered. Google itself had as yet no figures published about the revenue of the Android OS.
