Ziggo turns at the end of may is all about on the qam256-modulation technique to put an end to the lack of bandwidth in the channel. Now used the service provider in many cases, even the less advanced qam64.

Ziggo will in the coming months more and more hd channels to add to its range, but has for a long time to suffer from a lack of bandwidth. The cable operator is already a while busy with the step-by-step transition, but at the end of may, the project will be completed. Last year deleted the isp, some large foreign channels from the analog supply, to get more bandwidth for digital channels.

What Ziggo with the newly freed up bandwidth is going to do, is not yet entirely clear, reports Totaaltv. However, it is already certain that the MTV EN HD, Nickelodeon HD and Comedy Central HD is going to add to the channel.

Qam modulation means that both the amplitude, i.e. the strength of the carrier wave, if the phase or angle of the carrier wave by the signal is modulated, to more data at the same time to be able to send. That means that there is less bandwidth required for the same amount of traffic.

The cable operator now uses in most of the cases, the qam64-technology combined, which allows a bit-rate of 38 Mb/s is available. With qam256, which in certain situations is already being used, you can now at the same frequency 50,6 Mb/s of data to be sent. Downside for the customers is that the technique is more susceptible to interference.
