Minister Schultz: scada-systems in Government are secure

Minister Schultz van Haegen of Infrastructure and the Environment late in answer to parliamentary Questions know that there are no security issues with the Government-managed scada systems. Municipalities are responsible.

The questions, derived from two SP-Members of parliament, were set as a result of a report of EenVandaag. It was to see how through the use of scada-systems managed ground of the municipality of Veere on distance were to operate after the entry of a simple password. Furthermore, under other pumps in the sewage system are vulnerable.

According to Schultz, are bridges, locks and pumping stations that Rijkswaterstaat will be managed remotely for a large part is not connected to the internet. These waterworks would be operated locally or via a network to be managed, while some objects also via secure connections, to be controlled. The minister let it know that the security is periodically checked, but on the management by municipalities, the minister may not conclusive.

Schultz states in her answer that the Government listened to the advice of the National Coordinator for counter-Terrorism. So would the ‘local connections’ are replaced by a central and well-secured network of Rijkswaterstaat. This system would constantly be monitored. According to the minister, there are no indications that there are security issues with the Rijkswaterstaat managed scada systems. Should these still be found, promises Schultz ‘corrective measures’ to remedy the situation.
