Ads within apps are responsible for almost three-quarters of the power consumption of the app, evidenced by American research. The researchers names include Angry Birds under the microscope. Especially the 3g connection requires a lot of.

At Angry Birds on Android is three-quarters of the electricity that an app of the battery prompts, used to collect personal information, and to upload and the personalized advertisement to show, the researchers discovered of the American Purdue institute from the state of Indiana and Microsoft Research. Only 18 percent of the energy was used to create the game play itself. Also likes Angry Birds the 3g connection open longer than needed, which is 28 percent of the total energy requirement of the app costs. Without ads would have the app so just a quarter of the battery of questions than what he now asks, allowing a user on a battery charge four times as long can play.

At two other Android apps with ads, Free Chess and New York Times, showed a similar picture. “The thermal energy gives an important insight,” say the researchers. “Free apps spend only 25 to 35 percent of their energy on gameplay, but 65 to 75 percent of the user tracking, uploading user information and downloading ads.”

The researchers want their research to reach that app developers more precise look at the power consumption of their app. They have developed software, Eprof, which can be investigated which parts of Android-apps power consumption. One of the researchers works for Microsoft, that with Windows Phone is a competitor for Google’s Android, while another sponsored by Intel.
