The British newspaper The Guardian reports on the basis of an anonymous source that Apple at a studio in London, has asked to transfer music files to make them suitable for the new format. The file format would the sound quality and the corresponding bit rate automatically adjust to the available bandwidth. So a user would, for example, during a 3g connection, a relatively low sound quality dished up while he is at home via a wi-fi connection, audio of a higher quality may listen. Such a technique is also referred to as ‘adaptive streaming’.

It is unclear whether Apple will have a whole new dynamic compression algorithm has been developed, or that makes use of a combination of aac and alac, two audio codecs that Apple already used for a long time, among other things, offering music through iTunes. May want to Apple the new file format going to use music streaming to its iCloud platform.

Apple has been for some time active for the sound quality of digital music to enhance. So the company would be music producers to encourage the making of music on a ‘studio level’ – 24bit quality with a 96kHz sampling rate instead of cd quality – 44.1 KHz sample rate and 16bit depth – which is currently the standard is maintained. Within iTunes works Apple, already have a special section for the provision of ‘hd audio’.
