A project of the Wi-Fi Alliance wants the users to seamlessly switch between hotspots, so without every time having to log in. Telco’s have this benefit, because their network is less loaded.

The usual splash screens, users will receive when connecting to, for example, public hotspots, would the new technology Wi-Fi Certified Passpoint should disappear, reports Computerworld.

Instead of every time out and have to log in with a username and password, would the user’s device automatically to the hotspots to authenticate. That is done on the basis of a certificaatsysteem with the help of the used sim card. The connection is encrypted with wpa2-enterprise standard. Because a sim card is used, would it be possible to also cameras and dumbphones with a wireless network to connect to.

The Passpoint project, would isp’s be able to have users between their different wi-fi hotspots to roaming, such as mobile-phone users to roam between different cell towers. The Wi-Fi Alliance will begin in July this year, with the first phase.
