HP introduces new open-source browser for webOS

HP is working on a new browser for webOS called Isis. The Isis project is based on the built-in web browser of webOS and makes use of the Enyo framework. The browser is opensource and the source code is on GitHub.

HP has for the project a separate website was set up where the progress is kept. Also there is a GitHub account will be created where the source code for the different parts of the browser.

The developers for Isis working on a port of QtWebKit, a version of the WebKit browserengine on the basis of the Qt framework. This would, according to the developers faster and better able to get along with css3 and the upcoming html5 standard. For the interface is the Enyo-javascriptframework used, which webOS is at the basis of a large part of the interface.

The browser makes internal use of a client/server model, which should result in good performance and a smooth interface. Via npapi, it should be possible for plugins to the browser to link such as Adobe Flash. Although many of the components of Isis, regardless of platform, are is the browser currently only compile for webOS.
