Digital market is getting bigger and bigger in the Netherlands

NVPI, the Dutch association of the entertainment industry, the sales figures of 2011 published. The digital music and film markets to know a significant growth, at the expense of the physical markets, which are a decrease show.

The market recorded price decreases, a decrease in revenues of 6.3 percent compared to the year before: of 219,2 million to 205.3 million euro. The sales of physical albums, singles and music videos declined by respectively nearly 11 percent, almost 30 percent and almost 15 percent. The digital market did much better with 38.8 percent compared to more digital albums sold, and 35.3 percent more digital sold singles. The total number of products sold, both physical and digital, rose nearly 3 percent, from 24.4 million to 25.1 million.

The sales of the physical market for movies and series, decreased by 8.2 percent. Of the total revenue of 263.6 million euros, it is estimated that 53 million from video-on-demand exists, an increase of 51 percent compared with 2010. The sales numbers decreased by just 1 percent. Reasons are also price reductions. The blu-ray market is in full growth with 56,4 per cent more sold blu-rays in 2010.

The gamesmarkt has the worst year-on-year results of the three, with a revenue drop of 8.4 percent and a verkoopdaling in numbers of 12.2 percent. Of the entire turnover of 260,1 million with only 28 million of the digital market. Pc-games cover a declining share of the market. The number of sales of pc games fell by 18.5 percent compared to a decrease of 10.3 percent for the console games.
