KPN is struggling with large-scale dns-failure – update

A large-scale, nationwide dns failure at KPN ensures that fixed internet connections, digital television and digital telephony, not or bad to use. The interference can be circumvented by an alternative dns server to be set up.

On Twitter KPN has compared to a customer confirmed that it is a nationwide dns failure. So the fault is, is unclear. In the course of the evening the problem should be solved.

Many users are complaining on Twitter about non-working internet connections and sometimes also about the failure of the television and telephony signal. The dns problems can also be the cause of the lack of digital tv and telephony: these connections are leaning also on the dns servers for hostnames to ip addresses.

The problem can be rectified by an alternative dns server to be set up. Users can, for example, 8.8.8.8 from Google or 208.67.222.222 from OpenDNS. Setting up an alternate dns server in any case, in digital telephony, however, not possible in case of new TELECOM modems.

Because it is a dns issue, it would analogue television and telephony must be free of the problem. Also mobile connections seem to work.

Update, 18:32: According to KPN spokesman Stefan Simons have dns problems for a half-hour lasted, and they are around five hours resolved. Because the issues will vary by region were, didn’t everyone there last, says Simons. The television or telephony problems would not by the dns problem are caused, but then, it is not yet known.
