UPC is a test started with 450 customers to look at or mobile internet for consumers ‘technical and administrative’ work. That confirms the provider against Tweakers.net. UPC makes use of the Vodafone network.

The kabelaar offers since June last year business subscription for mobile internet. The intention was to within a short time, with variations for the consumer market, but that didn’t work out. UPC starts now or within the foreseeable future with mobile internet plans for consumers. The test via the Vodafone network began in early december, says spokeswoman Maaike Scholten against Tweakers.net. “We want to make sure that the technical and administrative work when we go live, and that’s why we test first.”

The step is remarkable, because UPC’s ambition seems to have to be a telecom provider with a private network. This bought UPC together with competitor Ziggo all frequencies in the 2.6 GHz band. Can only dongles work; existing phones and tablets support that frequency.

Later this year, auctions in place for more common and attractive frequencies. The kabelaar has not yet confirmed it, but it is obvious. In addition to UPC/Ziggo would also Tele2 a new telecom provider in the Netherlands want to be. If there are more candidates, is unknown. Companies can have until 16 July to log on to the government to participate in the auction.
