Sony Ericsson has in the last quarter of 2011, fewer phones are sold than in the same period last year. The joint venture was able to identify itself to the fall of cheap mobile phones, but analysis of the figures shows that not to be correct.

Sony Ericsson sold in the last year 19 million Android smartphones, as can be deduced from the quarterly results and annual results of the joint venture. Thus, Sony Ericsson estimated that around 4 percent of the smartphone market in its hands. For comparison: Samsung about 2011 as a whole, around 70 million smartphones, while HTC between 40 and 50 million pieces of suits.

The last quarter of 2011 we sold the joint venture 9 million mobile phones in total, of which 6.3 million Android-powered smartphones. The manufacturer sells from this year only smartphones, but nevertheless increased the sales of cheap cell phones without a smartphone os compared to the previous quarter. The increase amounted to almost 50 percent: from 1.9 million to 2.7 million pieces. That also pushes the average price of Sony Ericsson gained per unit which decreased from 166 to 143 euros.

The drop in sales of smartphones is due to the fact that the manufacturer, not with appealing new models came out. In the cheaper segments were the Xperia Ray and Xperia Active, but in the more expensive segment brought Sony Ericsson just new variants of already existing devices: the Neo V and Arc S. The first Xperia of the new generation, the Xperia S, last week at CES announced.

Sony Ericsson keeps soon to exist; Sony Ericsson bought out. On new devices the name will be Sony revolution, while the company Sony Mobile will be called. Supposedly, the name change somewhere in the course of this month.

Update 12:27: Sony Ericsson has during a presentation of the quarterly figures, the exact figures given on smartphoneverkopen. The article is adjusted accordingly.
