British researchers want to solar cells under the surface of oled displays to use smartphones more energy-efficient. The solar cells must be the light of the oleds exploit the schermoppervlakte not reached.

Yet would phones still not much more efficient of the technique: he has a 3.7″screen now approximate five milliwatts, about one percent of the power required for a smartphone of that size. If a user with a full battery is approximately ten hours can call, he can by this technique yet, so for about six minutes longer to call. The technique is not yet ready for use in consumer products, say the researchers from the university of Cambridge.

The technique works with light from oleds that the schermoppervlakte not reached. According to the researchers reached only 36 percent of the light that oleds produce, actually the display. Through the rest of the light to catch a photovoltaic layer, the wasted energy can be recycled.

The solar cells oleds can be made more effective, the researchers say. Together with other techniques they would be able to provide smartphones that last longer with one battery charge. The question is whether manufacturers of oled displays and smartphones the technique see: the system requires an additional layer, while manufacturers like Samsung are trying to the number of layers in oled screens as small as possible.
